Bloodlust & Harmony

The Two Souls

Updated Jul 23, 2026

Grim high fantasy. Everyone is a little monstrous, nobody is clean, and the light is as dangerous as the dark.

The world is old past reckoning, and it is not dead matter. It dreams, and it bleeds, and it has never agreed with itself about which it would rather do.

There are two souls beneath the stone and under the green. The priests of eight peoples have eight names for them, but the truest names are the oldest: Harmony and Bloodlust.

Harmony, the Song

Harmony is order, growth, the patient green, the law that holds a thing in the shape it was meant to keep. Where Harmony wins, forests stand a thousand years, empires do not fall, and the dead lie still. It is also stasis, and cages, and the mercy that will not let you change. Push Harmony far enough and it purifies everything into silence.

Bloodlust, the Hunger

Bloodlust is blood, war, appetite, the churn that tears the old shape down so a new one can claw free. Where Bloodlust wins, things are born that were never meant to live, armies march for the joy of marching, and the world remembers it is young. It is also ruin, and the wound that will not close. Push Bloodlust far enough and it devours the world to feed the next thing.

No creature is only one

Every faction in this history is the shape the world took when a people tried to grip one soul in both fists and choke the other out. None of them managed it. That is the tragedy, and it is why they cannot stop killing each other. Each is convinced it alone knows how the world is meant to end.

The world itself has no single name. The forge-folk call it the Ember. The elves call it the Mother. The orcs call it the Wound. Most others simply call it home, and go on hurting it.
